"I never got the credit for that," Dion rues today. "Nobody calls me the Grandfather Of Air Guitar."
Still an' all, It's a swell album. File under underappreciated.
Born To Be With You was recorded in '74 with Phil Spector, Rock's Mister Reasonable, so it's no great surprise the sessions were a hot mess and the release delayed for a year while Spector flew through the windshield of his car and had 700 [seven hundred - Ed.] stitches in his face and head.
FoamFavorites™ Cashman and West provided New York City Song, Bruce and Little Stevie attended the sessions, and Dion disowned it. It's magnificent.
Extry trk: Baby Let's Stick Together.
Streetheart is from the following year, and generally forgotten by everybody. But what do they know?
Note echoes of Jackson Browne in Queen Of 1959. Or maybe it's the other way round?
EDIT: Thanks to sambgodot for Suite For Late Summer link in comments!
Any youse bums gots Suite For Late Summer?
ReplyDeleteAs it happens, yes, I have.
DeleteAnd here it is https://workupload.com/file/B6RCe9mkKTk
DeleteI do have quite a few other albums, so, if any of the 4or5guys have requests I may be able to help.
Actually, I do! Would you happen to have the "Sanctuary" album?
DeleteD'oh, should have opened the download first. It's from the two-fer. Didn't that one also come with bonus tracks?
DeleteIf it did, could we have those with "Sanctuary", please?
You're right, but as Farq only asked for.....I'll sort it.
DeleteOne Buck Guy, try this https://workupload.com/file/TrkxMueZmTy
DeleteThanks, man. I should scramble the letters in your name a bit and call you sam-to-go 'cause you're becoming my go-to-guy for quick completion of missing holes in my collection *cue akward virtual man-hug*
DeleteI actually looked to buy these not too long ago but the two-fer is out of print or going for really unreasonable prices...
He has a new album in the offing. https://www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/dion-new-album-bruce-springsteen-paul-simon-jeff-beck-989411/
ReplyDeleteThanks very much!
ReplyDeleteThe "Dion" album is an old favorite, that I didn't currently have. Takes me right back to '68, and what a year that was.....one of the saddest and happiest years of my life. This record evokes all of that.
Sanctuary, Sit Down Old Friend and You're Not Alone from '70 and '71 kind of fill out that singer-songwriter period along with Suite For Late Summer and are all worth a spin or three.
ReplyDeleteAgreed on Sit Down Old Friend and You're Not Alone. "Josie" is a great song, among others.
DeleteI should have these somewhere on the other computer and can go look for those if need be, though I imagine sam might be quicker in getting you those. Still, if need be...
Personally, I've already got them, though thanks for the offer. Just taking advantage of the rare opportunity to express my abject (and ongoing--sounds like the new album will be pretty fantastic) Dion fandom here!
DeleteYo Farqster! Is there stealth link hiding out?
ReplyDeleteCheck back in a few hours. My broadband is narrower than a goldfish ass right now.
DeleteThere's a real good boot from Dion & The Mainstream Gang 1978 in New York.
ReplyDeleteAnyone interested in that?
Wholeheartedly agree about this--if I didn't already have it, I'd want it. Everyone else should, too.
DeleteYes, I'm definitely up for it...
DeleteMe too.

ReplyDeleteThree plus one
ReplyDeleteTook longer to upload than record - alternate link, same albums.
Sam, do you happen to have the "Return of the Wanderer" album? (also produced by Foam Favs Cashman & West)
ReplyDeleteLe Retour Du Voyageur. When I was ripping the CD the software came up with titles more suited to the Beach Boys and Monkees, so I trust I have retagged them correctly.
ReplyDeletehttps://workupload.com/file/p7AvkrMhvSa. If I had one buck for every....(!!!!) Enjoy.
They call me One Buck Guy, but still…;-)
DeleteThanks, man.
And hey, I personally am not picky about tags. There's always Allmusic or Discogs to get titles right. Not that I don't appreciate your efforts...
Hi, does anyone have "sit down old friend" and "you're not alone" by DION if you do many thanks .
ReplyDeleteUnless anyone else steps in in the meantime, I will post them both tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteIf you have them handily available, sam... I would have to look for them on the other computer minus the monitor that my wife "borrowed" for teleworking purposes (she's like a hacker, she needs two screens simultaneously).
DeleteYeah, I'll do them tomorrow as I said, but tonight, I'm screaming, the transport secretary has just told the British people, it is our civic duty to avoid using public transport, so if we can't walk or cycle to work (I'm retired, but....) we should use our car(s). In other words it's our civic duty to poison the fucking planet. These people, I'm so angry, I can't even think, let alone express my actual feelings. These people, I just want to stand them all against a wall and St Valentine's Day them all. AAAAARRRRGGGGGHHHH! In honour of Grant Shaps, that's the fucker's name, I have a bottle of schnapps and will drink it. Let me forget about today until tomorrow.........
ReplyDeleteProst! Zum Wohl! (That sounds very Schnaps-ian, doesn't it?)
DeleteWell, here we are in tomorrow, except, of course, it isn't, it's still, always, today, but, as promised, here's......whatever it was I promised,

Mononymic. Beats my old beaterLaurie monophonic pressing.
ReplyDeleteDept. of They are Dropping Like Flies Dept.
Yo, Dion is just about the Last Man Standing (apologies to the Ferriday Fireball...)
I just found out that Young Jessie ("Mary Lou") and Ian Whitcomb ("You Turn Me On") have died. Plenty on the recent passing of Mr. Penniman, but, NOT a thing to be found on the former, and sparse coverage of the latter. On the Weird Wild Web. About to try to rectify that...
