Play "Who's In My Box?" With T.V's Laura Petrie!

If you're a Four Or Five Guy© of a certain age, you may remember getting a zipper-testing hormonal rush from the Dick Van Dyke Show that had nothing to do with heartwarming family values and fine lounge furnishings and swell threads by Botany 500. If you're like me, Laura Petrie gave you enough wood to last through an Ozarks winter. Oh boy! Was she ever a dish! A real Petrie dish!

But did you know that in real life, Ms. Petrie is also a keen and knowledgeable collector of obscure rock albums? That's why we skyed Leggy Laura over to th' Isle O' Foam© in our special jet-powered FoamPlane© to host this very special edition of "Who's In My Box?"!

The rules? Why, they're simplicity themselves [itself - Ed.], ya doofus! Simply guess th' fine artiste struggling to be heard in Luscious Laura's Box!

So, I always considered Laura to be smooth, suave (despite her repeated cries of."Oh Rob!!!), and sophisticated. Maybe owing to the fact that the entire series was shot in black and white (long before Woody Allen decided it would be retro cool to do so), I believe what's in Madam Petrie's box is the album, Distant Light by The Hollies. Why? Well, Long Cool Woman.....

    2. Personally speaking I can never get enough of lovely Laura's cries of "oh Rob". Just wondering if maybe Van Dyke Parks in Ms Laura's box. As it were.

    3. Now ya tell me. I have no clue, so my initial thought stands (since I'm out of thoughts).

  3. Doesn't sound like The Hollies. They've got a Cream influence, but I'm only on the first song.

  4. Last time around, at least eight of the 4/5 guys got it in as many minutes. So it's a little tougher this time.

  5. Ok, I had a chance to listen. Familiar (derivative) sounds for the day, yet I have never heard of the perpetrator(s). But, you left us a clue in the box, and I was able to track it down. Shall I say it here? Or let the others ponder?

  10. Interesting guy. He also founded the band Orleans in 1972 and wrote the hit "Still the One."

  11. When I played the Laura's box, I had hoped for The Darlings(The Dillards) but instantly knew that we weren't in Mayberry. Heck, I would've settled for some ultra slow dialogue from Briscoe Darling(patriarch/jug-rhythm) but as soon as the music started, I remembered the daughters name was Charlene and not Laura. Instead of progressive bluegrass...I heard something that I thought was a lost album by The Open Mind(UK Philips). So, AGAIN...I knew Laura wasn't going to be anywhere near that clue. So, forget about any modern or sophisticated version of the covert mountain betrothal ceremony and show some affection the 'Darling' way: by throwing rocks at her. If indeed that is the girl known as Mary Tailor-Maid in early 70's MAD magazine. The box music was very therapeutic in all of it's unknown newness and suggestive aroma. Thanks, for giving me opportunity in hip-huggers. Better than mini-skirts...even in plaid(or, plead)!
    I lost...I gained...now, does she own an easy-bake oven?

  12. John and his darling wife Johanna wrote "Half Moon", which Janis Joplin was the first to record.

  13. The current Mrs. Mac (but, the day isn't over yet and she's threatening) went on tour with Orleans, as part of the road crew.

    3. Ironically, she stands about 5'2' and weighs maybe 100 lbs. But, as I have learned (and frequently forget), NYC gals know how to kill (figuratively and literally). Actually, not technically a roadie. She was a dancer and performed onstage for both Orleans and a band they toured with Ambrosia. She also did set design work. Interestingly, she also worked with Jaco Pastorious.

  14. Thought for a minute you were all talking about the actor who appeared in those bare-chested 40s movies with Maria Montez (him, not her, unfortunately). Then realised I'd partaken of too many G&Ts. Orleans? That's near Meung-sur-Loire where Francois |Villon was last seen in 1463.

    2. Some members of the audience seemingly misconstrued the spelling of the show's title, if what they tried to do to myself and the other members of the cast at the interval is anything to go by. Any normal audience would just have demanded their money back.

  15. Musing over what produced a stiffy back when the hormonal tides ran deep and strong, Mrs. Petrie was a contender for sure, but there were many others. That little teaser, Tuesday Weld, the teen wet dream with the deliciously pouty lips who singlehandedly was responsible for Dobie Gillis's persistent priapism, was the first to rise in my mind's eye.

    1. My people are in touch with Ms. Weld's people. Once we get the contract riders agreed we'll be flying her over to host the next Who's In My Box?
