Signe Of The Times Dept.

Color me confused. Here's a swell collection of early Jefferson Airplane live recordings with Signe Toly Anderson, but the last is dated October 30th, 1966, and I am reliably informed that Grace Slick's first performance with the group was on the sixteenth of that month. I'm, like, huh? Hoo hah?

Maybe you can help? Maybe you can search back ... back ... through the misty halls of memory to solve this conundrum? Maybe not. Maybe you just don't give a damn. Maybe you're too busy grouting the tiles in the bathroom, or snorting coke off a hooker's cell phone, for shame. I don't know what the hell you do with your time AND I DON'T WANT TO. Yeesh.

But if you're the type guy what knows about this type thing, do give us the benefit of your wisdom. If not, take a wild guess, ya doofus.

Note swell cover design, by latently talented FMF© Art Department Dept. Note Skippy hanging back, insanely adorable Signe, Marty's super-sharp threads, Alfred E. Neuman standing in for Jack.

I may have posted this before. Ahh, who gives a rat's ass. You don't remember, neither.

Signe Anderson's last show with the Airplane took place at the Fillmore on October 15, 1966. Grace slick's first show was October 16, 1966.
In other news: October 14th 1966 was my sixteenth birthday, no really.
    Now get off my lawn!

    1. Leave us address the most important issue foistways.

October 14th is my birthday, too! It's the best date for a birthday, I reckon.

Secondmost - give a listen to the last gig featured on this virtual biscuit, and explain what's going on here. I accept the dates as given, that's not in doubt. What is in doubt is this last concert.

    3. Did you ever watch the John Sayles film 'Honeydripper'? It starts with a poster advertising a gig on Saturday 14 October 1950. Amused me when I saw it. Apparently I was born about 1/2 hour into the 14th. I'm glad my mother hung on that long as I would then have shared a birthday with Margaret Thatcher, whom I despised as much as I do Trump now. Instead we got Roger Moore and Cliff Richard.

Say, wait a minute... my birfday is February 14. What's going on here with the number 14? I'm not saying it's aliens, but it's aliens.
But, of course, you all knew that.

    1. Here's a sincere offer, Mr. Strudel. In light of your obvious expertise, would you like to pen a blog piece? Couple hundred words, whatever.

Have a think about it. I'm serious. I could do with some help here, writin' dis garbage every day.

This offer is open to any of the Four Or Five Guys©. Any subject. Write it up first, then post it in these comments. If I think it's long enough - whoops - good enough, I'll give it its own post and delete the comment.

    3. I'm game. I'm good for one every fourth or fifth Tuesday of the menses. I've got some unimpeachable opines about what it is and what it isn't. For instance: Chilli Willie and the Red Hot Peppers? Yes, but only some of the time. Brewer & Shipley? No, almost never. Mungo Jerry? Hell yes. Horses? Of courses! I'm also open to being enlightened by an alternative opinion as well. So solicit away. I'll see what I can do. Plus I once owned a set of Ginsu Knives and like most UK seventies country rock, they were thin copies, but interestingly, also quite sharp! - stickboy

  5. Relevance, none. Here though is this. Paul Kantner and Signe Anderson died the same day, the same year, in the same city.
