ADDENDA: [that's a dirty word - Ed.] Looks At Life, Gentle On My Mind, and Iron Mountain Depot, all in a new link in the comments. Two or three more to come.
ANDMOREAGAIN: See my latest comment for Housing Project, Earthwords And Music, and Aereo-Plain. Unless youse bums upload others in the comments, our work here is done.
READ THIS COMMENT - even if you haven't read the piece.
ReplyDeleteOkay, let's try this again. A complete (ie with full stop), grammatically correct sentence made up of SIX (SIX) or more (OR MORE) single-word comments.
- No commenter to immediately follow his own comment with another (I'd of thunk that would be obvious).
- Any comment of more than word interrupts the sentence, which is declared void. A new sentence must be started.
- Punctuation >on its own< is not a word. You may follow your word by a full point, or a comma, if it is grammatically correct.
- The commenter who places a correct end word, with a full point, gets 16.002 FoamPoints, and ignites the firework display of download links!

ReplyDeleteDarn kids and your steam-powered aeroplanes, get off my yard!
ReplyDeleteWhat a party pooper!
ReplyDeleteYup. Mickey Bitsko spoils it for everybody. Tsk. So much for teamwork. So much for pulling together in tough times. So much for ... *humanity*
ReplyDeleteThis was to be expected, wasn't it? Put 4 or 5 Guys together, in all their multitudes, and ask them to shoulder an important, possibly life-saving, grammatical task collectively, and harmoniously, and there will always be that one rogue element killing the effort of. Such a shame, the aborted sentence seemed to have so much real potential.
ReplyDeleteYes, he let himself down, but more importantly he let Th' Isle O' Foam© down - that august and noble institution, that Virtual Parthenon of fine minds. I hope he sees just what he's done here, and learns from it, and becomes a better person. For our part, we must look upon his failings charitably, and resist all temptation to call him a merry-andrew or a capering ne'er-do-well.
DeleteI shall upload the fine long-playing records later, when I've calmed down a little and see hope for mankind once more.
I'm just glad I couldn't get to my laptop before Mickey; save me from being called out.
DeleteI'm just glad he didn't say Fine minds. And a nyuk-nyuk-nyuk... Hey Moe, hey Moe...
DeleteStealth Link.
ReplyDelete. .
Thank you!
DeleteHave you heard Mark Twang?
Mickey Bitsko bears a strong resemblance to Terry-Thomas, often a blighter.
ReplyDeleteAgreed. Absolute Showaah!
ReplyDeleteLoved the way he said "Showaah."
DeleteHis speech about "bosoms" in IAMMMMW is a classic condemnation of the U.S. male. At the end of his life, he was found living in poverty in the U.K., and was rescued by some show-biz charity (who somehow hadn't seen his fall into the poverty trap until almost too late). One of the great character actors - but he could only be Terry-Thomas, a niche market.
DeleteMark Twang I have, somewhere ...
DeleteT-T in that "Munsters" flick was not all that great. Heck, the whole thing was a bit of a "Batman" ca$h-in, though, wasn't it? O.K., the Batman cinematic effort numero uno circa '66 wasn't a good comparison, but what the hay. Most daze, I'll take "Car 54 Where Are You?" anytime over the above, I guess.
DeleteA throwback to the days when an album could unironically (*drumroll*...or is it?) be called "The Love Album" and not be laughed out of stores for it.
ReplyDeleteThen again, the cover doesn't inspire much lovin' feeling, does it. Hartford looks as if he's either totally stoned out of his gourd or as if he really does not care about the female who is caressing his hair. He's a hard-workin' man, he ain't got no time for that lovin' stuff…
Or the belt just blew out his left ear and he's in considerable pain...
I still think we need to "Come Together" (No, not over yer Kremé pic of the day... ....is that "CREAM-ay" or "CREM-ay" or what...??? Perspiring mindless want to know...)
ReplyDeleteI say we (go team) try & give this one another kollidge drop out try (yes, I know, stealthy linkage now in effect, so it'd just be a "for fun" and no EmPeeThuh-ree Awards program thing...)
If anyone's game, see:
Next post.

ReplyDeleteO.K., I geddit.
ReplyDeleteBut I am all for giving this game show (prizes, boobies or not, doors # 1 through 3 or not) another run here on FMF. And soon. Not as if alla we shut-ins and other assorted Qwaranteeniebopper wannabes are desperate for Infotainment or nuttin'...
It has a way of getting the most hesitant of word scribes out from among the wallflowery woodwork, perhaps even paving the way for a W.L.F.G.W.L.T.W.! Dept. entry or two...
Ha! Here I thought you were joking, Farq, about JH inventing rap, but these banjo-spoken word jams are my kind of jam. Yee-haw!!!
ReplyDeleteBacktracking a little, I'd define Terry-Thomas as a bounder and just possibly a cad; but not a blighter...
ReplyDeleteNice distinction. I'm sure he'd have agreed.
DeleteI realize that JKC very charitably set me up with a good straight man line back there that I failed to exploit:
JKC Have you heard Mark Twang?
FT3 No, but I've heard Wilson Pickett
(better late than never)
Terry-T: The Limey Charles Nelson Reilly...?
DeleteOuch...that makes Mississippi John Hurt
ReplyDeleteSomeone's trying to Muddy Waters.
ReplyDeleteHere's the last batch. What an interesting artist. These early albums are full of experimentation, idiosyncrasy and fun. Our pals at Allmusic say this of Aereo-Plain: "it signaled the full blooming of his eccentric talent. This is an essential album for any fan, revealing both his genius and the glory days of early '70s progressive bluegrass."
ReplyDeletei stumbled upon John Hartford through my enthusiasm for the Dillards. Doug and Rodney made 2 albums with him in the late 70s. I gathered all his Flying Fish albums and the 2 WBs but his RCA output was elusive for quite some time. He wrote some great love songs, for me No End Of Love and Simple Thing As Love put Gentle On My Mind in the shade and his 'quirky' sense of humour amuses me, Boogie, Dancing in the Bathtub and his paean to his wife's Golden Globes and her Imagination Fired By Books. Gentle set him up for life and allowed him to indulge his river boat passion, getting his river pilot's license and making the kind of music he wanted without label executives hounding him to be commercial. Loads of stuff I can share if the 4or5guys are interested.
ReplyDeleteFuck the Four Or Five, Sam - I'm up for it.
DeleteHe has a strange affinity to Roger Miller.
Steam Powered Aereo-Takes. Demos/album sessions/non-album sessions an a post-LP prospective (but unreleased) single (17/18). Abandoned JH songs, early attempts at later released JH songs and bluegrass standards. Plus 4 outtakes from the LP sessions.

I meant also to draw the following to the attention of the 4o5guys:

John performing a Dylan song, from the soundtrack of a film entitled 'Jud' (??anyone?)

He is backed by the members of the Mason-Proffitt Band (another early 70s country rock ensemble, which if you are unaware of them, are well worth searching out) and augmented by Al Perkins on steel.
Thanks for the JH links, sam! Mason Proffitt coming up.
DeleteAh! I figured it was only a matter of time...quite the underrated band as well, so right as rain for the Isle of Foam...
DeleteMason Proffitt are tuning up backstage as we speak.
DeleteSambgodot...thank you for the additional Hartford but I believe you posted identical links. He was one of my favorite artists by far
ReplyDeleteAh, er, yes, so I did, touch of the too much of the red stuff......try this one for Aereo-Takes......https://workupload.com/file/QEanAuFGVgL
DeleteI didn't know excessive use of ketchup had that kind of effect on people.
DeleteOK, let's see if I can do this right the first time. John's first 3 LPs for Flying Fish 1976/7
