A Little Nostalgia For The Old Folks Dept.

These exclusive The Zappa Movie Official Soundtrack Album! Exclusive Backer Reward Editions were released exclusively for them what backed The Zappa Movie, which I'm guessing ain't you, ya cheap grifter. But now, thanks to th' open-handed largesse and airy disdain for interleckchewal copyright for what th' IoF© has become a household word in cheap motel rooms everywhere, you can make like you did!

Imagine the ugly disbelief on the faces of your seedy pals sharing a bucket of cheese fries at Big Boy when you display the fake CDRs what you had done at Kinko's! "Why yes," you warble, "I was one of the backers of The Zappa Movie, so fuck you!"

The set consists of two luxury compilations exclusive to you, Mr. Big Time Movie Backer: a full length CD, and a twenty minute EP! Go ahead, make like you gots 'em awready. Nobody here's goin' to believe you neither. You got that type face.

This post made possible thru th' ægis of Potrzebie, to whom we extend our heartfelt thanks.

  1. Today's subject for mass debate is - do lab rats prefer Miles Davis or Beethoven? What about if they're shot full of cocaine?

    1. My guess would be Miles with or without "Bolivian Marching Powder".

I have to wonder what Ludwig might have composed, with a head full of snow.

Personally, I was never a fan of Cocaine.

    2. Don't make me laugh. Beethoven, of course! Well, maybe Miles. Dag-nabbit.

By the way, where's the link. Can't find it. Thank you very hard.

    3. Cocaine is like really evil coffee.

    4. Never did anything for me (unlike coffee, which at least tastes good).

  2. The Rev.Dr.Baz points out that rats share some charateristics with human earthlings - they engage in sexual congress for pleasure & also kill for pleasure. And remember if you corner one & it leaps at you, it`s not attacking, its trying to jump over your shoulder to escape. Like humans I think some will prefer Miles & others Ludwig Von & some will enjoy both (especially the cardboard covers).
Is it Beethoven for sex & latter day Miles for murder or visa versa?
If you have a male & female rat on Jan 1st & you leave them alone you will have 2000 rats by December 31st (although they will probably kill most of them). It is alleged that the millions of rats in Australia are all descended from the half dozen that accompanied the first caucasian invasion.

  3. My fave FZ platter is Reuben & The Jets & for me, The Mothers went downhill after the wonderful Ray Collins departed. I have the Greasy Love Songs disc which, if I can find it,I will gladly upload if you like. I also have a copy of the fill-um, which I found diappointing. All I can say is "Blow Your Harmonica Son". The Rev. Dr Baz Chaplain of The Cosmonauts of Inner Space.

    1. Listening to classical music on acid was a bafflingly flat experience, like it was happening in the next room. Nothing to hear here folks.

  6. I only sorta like Zappa. Joes Garage, Apostrophe, maybe not a lot else. But what I'd really like to find is a promo film. I don't even know the name of it, or what Zappa product it was promoting, but I'd love to find it. It was a bit like the BBC short films Morph, an early Aardman Animations effort.

Oh, and the rats. It'll be a generational thing. The young dudes would eat up Miles, and the more mature rodents go for Beethoven. With or without stimulants.

  7. Sorry, forgot to mention. The promo film was like plasticine landscapes bubbling up and down in a suggestive menner.

    2. I think the video you are talking about is "city of tiny lights" made for The old grey whistle test. A 70's British music show mainly for old farts stoners and hippies.
The host at the time Mr "whispering" Bob Harris referred to the New York dolls as "mock rock" resulting in Mr Sid Vicious whacking him upside the head with a bike chain.

  10. The links will be up shortly, Shirley. Having difficulty focussing right now, bent over me keyboard.

The rats thing - there was an actual study - rats responded better to Beethoven until dosed with cocaine, and even when the drug wore off they preferred Miles.

  12. Here's Greasy Love Songs, one of many marketing misfires screwed up by the Zappa Family Trust. "Hey - let's not just reissue the original Reuben recordings in highest quality in the original sleeve - let's call it something else and give it a really shitty sleeve design! That'll work!"

Incredible how Zappa's music has always been mishandled by people called Zappa. Frank himself was of course guilty of stripping away the rhythm section and floating in new musicians for the godawful CD issue, lying that the original tapes had been lost. Well, they hadn't, and this reissue lets us hear how fantastic-sounding they still are.

    2. The whole series of Lost was a kind of concept board sketch for th' IoF©. Kind of a rough outline of what's happening here.

  13. It behooves me at this point to announce th' IoF© will, until I get screed from youse lazy-assed bums, be devoted entirely to the Life And Recordings Of Carly Simon, starting in a couple of days.

  14. Mr. Pune has put you all to shame with a swell, if slight, slice o' screed that'll be loadupped in a couple of days, narrowly averting the Carlyfest (at least this time around). No flipping!

  15. Here's three Zappa covers albums - Pierre Jean Gaucher with a guitar-heavy fusionesque instrumental album, Caballero Reynaldo who simply defies description, and a comp of surf style interpretations which occasionally, like Charlie, don't surf.

  16. I love this place....

Have a colleague who lit-er-ally studies this stuff...mostly she gives rats large quantities of various drugs and sees what happens with sex, but she's been known to also play music at them. Also roller derbys and currently has blue hair. As teh kidz say, she's a mood. And not to be missed.

  18. Late to the party with some FZ tunes played by a wind quintet, Le Concert Impromptu, good for trying to fool people into thinking you got taste and sophistication, or perhaps scoring those old 8mm silent home movies. A lot more enjoyable than that London Symphony stuff or anything with a synclavier on it, in my opinion.

    slipped between the bread.
