Hell's Monkees Dept. - Northville Cemetery Massacre

In 1975, Michael Nesmith was getting his house in order after releasing The Prison on his own Pacific Arts label, but RCA claimed he still owed them product. Unwilling to record a new album for his old label, he suggested they release his soundtrack to Northville Cemetery Massacre, a bikesploitation movie released that year. RCA duly printed up cover slicks [left - Ed.], but found the delivered tape - copied direct from the celluloid - unusable. Nesmith wasn't overly concerned - he'd donated the soundtrack to the director for nothing, anyway. We can only guess at the musicians involved, but Red Rhodes may lend his velvet hammer, and there's some experimental synth that has to be Nesmith, although the few vocals aren't, unfortunately, his (prove me wrong).

It's probably his most obscure recording, although a 45 released on Cannon Records [left - Ed.], featuring two radio spots for the movie, must run it close. C-E-M-E-T-E-R-Y cemetery, guys.

The movie is on YewChewb, should youse bums be desirous.

This post made possible thru' funding from the Apocrypha Foundation, a non-profit organisation. My thanks to Schartzmugel Ó Raghailligh for the cover slick!

  1. You're interested in this, in a kind of passive, uncaring way. You wouldn't go so far as to say you actually want it, leave alone need it; but if it was handed to you then yes, you might find time to listen to it.

What do you need in an ordinary day? Aside from relationships, food, health, shelter ... don't sweat the big stuff.

    1. Oh I dunno. I think "need" is a sliding scale. I need coffee in the morning, not water. I need to listen to Simon & Garfunkel again, not the music that beats randomly from a passing car.

    1. Excellent response. A beacon to illuminate the soul and show the way.

    2. I misread beacon as bacon.

      Now I want a BLT.

    3. What business has *lettuce* in a bacon sandwich? This shows a major failing in US culture. The only thing you really need in a bacon sandwich is ketchup. LETTUCE!?? *shudder*

    4. *clears bric-a-brac from table with forearm, leans in* Let's get this straight, America. You put hot bacon in a bun with cold lettuce, two things happen, neither of them good. The bacon heats up the lettuce, rendering it disgusting, and the lettuce sends an unwanted chill through the pork. After a brief struggle, the whole soggy mess reaches room temperature, an ideal state neither for salad nor fried bacon. WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE?

  4. By no means, should a Toasted English muffin with bacon and peanut-butter be thought of as needed; its right up there with H2O & oxygen!
