Robert Stack's Paisley Underground Playroom© Dept.

You'll know Bob Stack from his tough-guy title role as NBC Radio's Tardigrade - T.V. Detective! But did you know he owns and runs the Paisley Underground Playroom™,  the notorious Spokane [WA - Ed.] niterie? Here's Bob, speaking to us yesterday via our Atomic Science Satellite:

"Sure, Farq! The Paisley Underground
- half myth, half reality, half marketing - produced a small but exquisite body of work (and I'm not just talking about Susanna Hoffs here heh heh) which still sounds as good as its 'sixties inspiration. But True West never quite capitalized on their first ep, Hollywood Holiday, here extended to epic mini-album proportions. Noisy, banging, melodic. Gets regular spins at th' Playroom!"

"And hey -
The Eyes Of Mind
also debuted with a mini-album, Tales Of The Turquoise Umbrella, presented here in the rarely-seen extended album version, with a generous eleven tracks of whimsydelia that make Michael Quercio sound like Lemmy Out Of Motorhead!"

Thanks, Bob!

  1. To get your personal Stealth Link, simply share with us your favorite movie! Oboy! Some fun, huh? Will it be Têrk Nërstrøm's Ski Of Despair? Or family fun-fest Gore, Guts n' Gals?

  2. This won't come across as edgy, but its Casablanca. Offbeat choice is Local Hero.

    1. Not looking for edgy, or even unpredictable, pmac. Mine is 2001: A Space Odyssey.

    2. Great movie - just wish the sequel had never seen the light of day (or that I had wasted 2 hours of my life watching it).

    3. I'm a big fan of 40s/50s noir - just finished re-watching Kiss Me Deadly (perfect print on YouTube) - totally gripping, beautifully played and shot - wotta movie! (Another non-date movie tho')

    4. For a little known film noir reel, give Panic In The Streets a look. Shot in NO during the 50s and has incredible footage of the French Quarter. Zero Mostel is in it (my wife's godfather - I shit you not), and has a very topical theme to the movie.

    5. Not little-known to me. A big favorite! Great use of real, actual people in their real, actual locations.

    6. Nice. Another movie that bests depicts NO is Down By Law. I used to live in the apartment that they used for the opening scenes with Ellen Barkin and Tom Waits.

  5. Once Upon A Time In The West (Morricone's incredibly beautiful them) - tying with Night Of The Hunter (Charles Laughton's remarkable debut and swansong as director).

    1. One of the local TV stations in NO for years used to play Strangelove on NYE during their Dialing For Dollars matinee.

  9. Round up the usual suspects.

Another toughie posed by that purveyor of fine features, foot-longs (LPs) and frivolity, FT!

I'd say lemme sleep on it again, but, what the hay.

I've recently had a hankering to re-see my favorite "caper" flick (there are MULTIPLE "fave" categories, so sue me..):

    Paper Moon.

    Running a close second?:

    Topkapi

I know, I know, both "Lightweight" fare, and hardly the mainstream-lame cliché-ridden ole standards, ala Hitch & other laff at the losers leading lads of the local cineplex... (Arsenic & Old Lace, To Catch a Thief, The Ladykillers, et al) but, try it, you'll like it.

"We all need a laugh these days" Dept.

We now pause for a brief intermission. Please return your tray tables to the upright position.

    Rosebud..........................
