Mission Statement: to do very little, for very few, for not very long. Disappointing the easily pleased since 1819. Not as good as it used to be from Day One. History is Bunk - PT Barnum. Artificially Intelligent before it was fashionable. Fat camp for the mind! Nothing lasts, but nothing is lost. The Shock of the Old! Often bettered, never imitated.
Since the Zappa link wound up in the Rodgers and Hammerstein dept, how about another R&H here? My own, and another needle drop of Flower Drum Song. Chop Suey, anyone? https://workupload.com/archive/HcZDKxYzXE
Should you be in another space when you watch this clip you will see two Genius at work.I doubt Frank knew what was going on.Norman one of Australia's greatest.
I should imagine Zappa had a pretty shrewd idea of what was going on there, and went along with the joke. I love the way he keeps looking at Norm when he's blowing that harmonica.
An old cartoon in the UK satirical mag Private Eye showed the naked John and Yoko, with him saying "if your tits are right, it's half past six." Thank heavens we've all grown up since then.
The funniest Norman Gunston interview for me was with Zsa Zsa Gabor. He conducted most of it with his totally diffident, dumb act. This naturally drew out the naturally superior arrogance and common rudeness in our Magyar beauty. Eventually though, he caught her out with a one liner. The silence was deafening. Nowadays, he couldn't get away with most of the things he said. He once asked an Aboriginal (politically correct at the time) if he was from "are you a coon mission?" This was on national TV. He was referring to Aurukun, an Indigenous township in the Cape York Peninsula.
Contains the first time we got to hear the lyrics to Holiday In Berlin & was my introduction to the Beat the Boots series. Not the greatest quality, but not too bad for a bootleg. Thanks for the memories!
A lot!!!

DeleteSo sorry FT3, I didn't see the comment about Rodgers and Hammerstein.
ReplyDeleteIt's okay! Most of th' 4/5g@ will miss the clew anyway, so you're doing everyone a favor! (Anyway, blogs are for writing, not reading ...)
DeleteHow about I make it up to you with this. My own needle drop of Elvin Jones' The Prime Element?

An underappreciated musical.
DeleteHere's a needle drop of the 1977 Broadway revival of "The King & I" with Yul Brynner and Constance Towers. Et cetera, et cetera, et cetera!

DeleteMy post bag has been overflowing with requests from thousands (Morty n' Mildred Thousands, Stink Butte, ND) for a deliverable to suit th' jus' plain folks whut don't give a horse pucky for these consarned bloatrips. "Where's our trusty shitrate?" wheezes Olaf Pikkelhaus (93). Fret not, oldtimer! The Official IoF© Deliverable™ is here, at a non-invasive @192:

DeleteYears ago, I saw Norman interview Paul and Linda McCartney. Norman told Linda she didn't look Japanese.
