Kneels For Nobody, Stands For Decibels Dept.

In 1972, a sixteen year-old Peter Holsapple formed Rittenhouse Square with Mitch Easter and Chris Stamey (both - just - old enough to buy beer) and cut this here long-playing EP rekkid with producer Bobby Locke on drums. Locke disappears from view, but Holsapple and Stamey go on to alter rock n' roll history - and punctuation use - as the dB's, while Mitch Easter becomes Mitch Easter, key figure in the teentastic Winston-Salem Sound.

So this is where everything that matters starts, with a bunch of kids in snazzy shirts falling over each other with enthusiasm and enough riffs n' spliffs to get them through the session. Dual guitars! Handclaps! Does it get any better than this? Maybe, but not much. Turn it up!

"She means more to me than my Gibson Les Paul, because all she wants to do is ball."

    2. Must admit to knowing bugger all about dBs so looking forward to being educated. If nothing else it will stop me listening to that Kula Shaker album which I thing is the best I've heard in a longtime.

    3. Nobster, check out today's CVC album. This is almost nothing at all like Peak dB's, so hang in there for the great stuff!

  2. Huge thanks for this - didn't know it existed. Big fan of Mitch Easter, and the dBs and all who sailed in her.

  3. Hard to believe this begat the jangle rock and power pop goodness that these guys would bless us with in the 80s and beyond. In addition to the dB's and Let's Active, "Mavericks," the record that Holsapple and Stamey reunited and released as a duo in 1991, is an unappreciated gem of a record. Thanks for sharing this, have always been curious to hear it. Frank

  9. ThedBs.com is pleased to present the premiere of the "Neverland" music video. The footage was shot in 1982 by Phil Marino, who used some of the stills for the cover of Like This. However, the footage languished, The dB's lost touch with Phil, and before you could say "Super 8" a quarter century had gone by.

In no small coincidence, Jake Gorst, filmmaker and creator in 2001 of The dB's Online, knew Phil Marino, although neither knew of the other's connection to The dB's until Jake suddenly realized and asked Phil. The repercussions were enormous. Through this happenstance not only were The dB's reunited with Phil, but he donated quite a bit of material to the band's archives, including the footage before you now. The band has had its ups and downs since way back then, but nothing is wrong with waiting for quality.

Jake has edited the pieces together with Phil's blessing and as originally intended. It's at once ancient history and brand new. Like a vintage clothing store, or 1936 Chateau Lafite Rothschild.

    We sure were skinny...
