Play Some New Dept. - Jupiter Affect

The Jupiter Effect was a 1974 bestseller predicting colossal earthshaking disasters that never transpired; a neat trick, because nobody could ask for their money back either way. Jupiter Affect (in planetary synchrony with another post-Paisley Underground band Viva Saturn) [FoamFeatured® antecedently - Ed.] was a rock group fronted by Michael Quercio, whose strange toybox genius inspired The Three O'Clock, and to a lesser degree, Permanent Green Light, a band that fell a little short of its perfect name.

Apparently a Kick Arse™ live act, they made three records in five years, with Quercio later fronting a reformed O'Clocks to little effect. For those disappointed by Vermillion, the Three's last album, Jupiter Affect's music is a more logical evolution of the sound, although many fans didn't see it that way, disliking the harder edge.

I was a late convert, believing that the Paisley Underground bands had enjoyed their (brilliant) day in the sun. But these two albums and debut e.p. are swell, the strengths clarifying after repeat plays, and deserve better than being considered also-rans. Quercio's voice is a taste acquired by too few, and its setting here in honed psychedelic pop-rock is weirdly affective.

  1. Those of th' 4/5 Guys© desirous of garnering these swell recetacles of melodiousness would be well advised to talk footwear.

I live in a style-free bubble where nobody gives a shit what you wear or look like. When it rains, pull a plastic bag over your head. So my footwear of choice is generally the basic Croc currently being used as a chew toy by the puppy. You can doff/don instantly (an important feature here - why struggle with laces?), they're totally weatherproof, been run over by a truck a couple of times - indestructible. This pair is seven years old, ugly as shit, but THE SHOE.

Tell me about your Jimmy Choo toilet heel pumps.

  2. Jimmy Choo is a true icon in the wonderful world of stiletto heeled "Fuck Me Pumps". You gotta' love the way they make women walk like they have oil wells in their backyard.

For dress shoes and Chelsea boots, Crockett & Jones are hard to beat. For casual shoes, I like Quoddy, and for running shoes it's Salomon or Nike.

That's one way of putting it.

  3. Merrell's. I destroyed my feet from playing sports and being flat footed. Merrell's fit great and let me walk/run/bike without any residual pain. Literally either wearing a pair of them or going bare footed.

  6. Thanks Farq. Yes, I also wear shoes, mostly New Balance athletic footwear with white socks. I have a black pair of athletic shoes to wear if something more formal is required.
