  1. I downloaded and turned it 90 degrees to get an easier view, fascinating panorama from the days gone by!
Where and when was this taken?

    1. If you zoom in, you can see the Avenue Of The Americas street sign, which was what 6th Avenue (Noo Yawk) was called after being renamed in 1945, but that didn't take hold, and 6th Avenue it remains. So the photo is prolly late 'forties, judging from the hats and the cars. Imagine all this sumptuous graphic street design in color!

(You can zoom in mucho grande)

  2. My best guess, due to various clues, is W. 43rd St. and Sixth Ave., NYC, c. 1948-1951. --Muzak "Sherlock" McMusics

  3. And it's 43rd St. as the cross street because of the Hanover Hotel on the far left side of the picture (where Woody Guthrie lived). --Muzak McM.

  4. Most men wore a hat in those days, and not a beard in sight. I also notice no-one appears to be smoking, yet most films I've seen of that era everyone seemed to smoke, was smoking in the street not the done thing?

    1. I'm pretty sure hat-wearing stopped being a thing when Kennedy went bareheaded.

If your comment doesn't immediately appear, it means Kreemé is checking the handwriting before passing it on to me. I'm a busy man and have no time to decipher crayoned scrawls.
