Jason Statham's Portfolio O' Powerpop! Dept.

You'll know hunky Jason Statham from his award-winning participation in the 1990 Commonwealth Games, where his diving skills for Team Britain attracted major underwear designers! But did you know he's also something of an authority on Powerpop?! We relaxed poolside whilst [grammar - Ed.] Kreemé [can't source picture so have embedded placeholder image above - Ed.]
served signature Vegemite™ n' Bailey's™ smoothies!

FT3 Jase, baby! Lookin' smooth n' stubbly with a twinkly hint o' GTA, maybe GBH! How's it hangin' my man!

JS Oh, comme çi, comme ça.

FT3 So - th' Jaseman digs Powerpop! Who knew?

JS Not I, dear boy! When do I get paid?

FT3 [laughs awkwardly] Ha ha! Which you brung us a couple albums awready!

JS You mean those things you forced on me as I stepped from the helicopter? I rather think my secretary disposed of them.

FT3 Haw! That's th' Stathers fo' ya! Always wit' th' gags!

JS My IBAN code. It's been fun.

[tape runs out at this point - Ed.]

    1. I loved Close Encounters the first time around, completely taken in by the FX. The remake lost it for me, especially the goopy ending.

  3. Action for action's sake. Crap, but hard to stop watching.

  4. No, I hardly watch any TV during the summer, or is it a couple of films. Nice placeholder image.

  6. Yep! I enjoyed them, though the sequel was a bit of a letdown.

  7. If I could be said to have ever grown up it was within a couple of miles of a hamlet named Crank whose surrounding fields of rape shine glorious and yellow in the sunny months.

Tisbury looks v nice. Haven't seen the film but the presence of the Stathe is a fairly reliable indicator of big stupid enjoyment eg 'The Meg 2', which i forgot most of even before it ended.

  8. I remember the death of the Asian sidekick in Crank being unreasonably unpleasant, especially in a 'fun' action movie, and find it hilarious - spoiler for a twenty year old film I guess - that they go out of their way to show that Statham's character is dead at the end, only to completely handwave that away at the beginning of the sequel with a 'nah, he ain't dead, just some scratches' when the guy fell out of helicopter or some such thing (It's been awhile snce I've seen that film...)

  9. I hope youse bums are downloading the deliverable - best powerpop I've heard for a while. Uptempo, great songs, great drumming,, great guitars, great singing, and supersmart arrangements that never get lazy. Did I mention guitars? these guys are the dog's bollocks. Let me know if you have anything else by them.

  10. Hey, why so serious about ol' JS?

I didn't complete the crank stuff, started to see it one night at the cable but couldn't stand the foolishness. Not that I dislike crazy movies, but this was too much. Or I was just tired, who knows?

Now, my point is: the guy has better movies than the cranky thing. Blitz is in my opinion a very good film, and don't forget about Snatch. Yeah, he was there, along with Brad Pitt and a lot of other wonderful colourful characters.

The problem with JS is, as always, the script they have to work with, and of course the filmmaking. When this two things are good, only a Schwarzeneger could fail (and even good ol' Arnold achieved good films in his career). But with action figures like JS is more often understood that the script and the filmmaking are not relevant for the film final cashing, so the producers don't care to go cheap. And cranky.

Is that JS fault? Of course it is, he could say no, but in my experience, money always speak louder... Sadly.

  12. I loved Crank One and Two! I love all his movies. He always seems to be kicking the living dog shit out of the right people. Kudos, Farq!

  13. Watching Crank now. So far, it's a real hoot. I've watched Wrath of Man (twice actually). It's not too bad.

  14. Crank is video/computer gaming as a movie. There are hints in the credits. He dies at the end but only in the sense that he "loses a life", so getting another life for Crank 2 isn't breaking any rules. I can't think of anyone other than Statham with the manic, focused physical intensity the role needs.

    1. Fans of the frenetic and over-the-top nature of the Crank films may also enjoy Hardcore Henry which is filmed entirely from a "first-person shooter" perspective and takes this gaming as a movie style to the Nth degree. Fantastically fun if you can stomach a lot of violence and camera movement.

    2. Absolutely loved hardcore Henry. Gamers was great too and the FPS section in Doom Movie wass pretty damn cool. I think the Doom Flick bit actually inspired the later Hardcore Henry & Gamers movies.

If your comment doesn't immediately appear, it means Kreemé is checking the handwriting before passing it on to me. I'm a busy man and have no time to decipher crayoned scrawls.
