| Oh come on! We've all been there! |
Last year, Goose's Everything Must Go was unanimously voted [by you - Ed.] Album O' Th' Year! Since then it's been a real and rare pleasure to work back through their catalog. If you "dig" the now sounds of uptempo rock, pop, and roll, these swingin' long-playing elpee records will get yer arthritic old toes a-tappin'!
Those oh-so-musical qualities that put them ahead of everyday, lackluster beat combos? Why, here they are in full!
Likeable vocals from folks who can actually carry a tune. So important.
Tunes. Goose is often likened to Humphrey McGee And His Phishes, but these guys hang their chops on actual songs. Songs you can remember. Even you. Chord changes that don't leave a chalky aftertaste!
Did I hear you say technical proficiency? No, on account which you don't use that-type langwidge. But, oboy, do these chaps got chops! Out th' ass!
"G-String Gussie" Gooselips [left - Ed.] sez: "I am literally like so up for getting Goosed by these fellows!"

Their five (count 'em!) studio albums in one consumer-friendly bundle!

ReplyDeleteSurely drone delivery, as a mist, is possible? I'm willing to be a guinea pig. Capybara, even.
DeleteDissolving egos, seeing the wholeness of everything, and expanding imaginations all in one little molecule. Seems worth it to me. That's why they got so upset about it in the first place.

ReplyDeleteI had never even heard of Goose before the first deliverable. I listened- really liked it and thought- how have I never heard this? I didn’t think I was living under a rock but….. It was one of the best albums I had heard in the last 5 years. Reminiscent of many things but still unique.
ReplyDeleteThen this last deliverable - which provided great musical context - and I was sitting at my desk with the volume cranked - loving what I was experiencing. Thanks for the musical enlightenment.
I've been disappointed by all the jam bands because they all lack the basic song structure - something the Dead and the Allmans understood. I've been playing these Goose albums back to back without getting tired, and that's because they know how to write a song. There are flashes of all my favorite bands (including a wonderful Little Feat groove, and they can play reggae effortlessly) and the variety throughout is refreshing - they don't limit themselves. Vocals aren't straining for effect, guitar solos come at the right time, and there's always something unexpected around the corner.
