  7. YES. don't even need to look carefully. unless these are stuffed animals the sheer impossibility of such a pose is ridiculous.

  8. If it's not AI, it's at least Photoshop.

  9. Looks real to me, so it's probably not.

  13. I'd like to thank Mr. Fishell for the opportunity to write NO. I think it's some other kind of fake, like "good ol' PhotoShop."

  14. The answer is, rather astonishingly, no (run it through any of the online AI recognition apps).
What's interesting is how my first reaction to it was "AI", because those beasties being besties was unlikelies. We've reached the point where we're unwilling to take at face value any image we see, which is both creepy and Not A Bad Thing. But here, that cynicism spoils the effect. So let's look at these wooly pals and feel good about the world. At least, a part of it.

    1. i think it is possible for animals to have unlikey associations but the perfection of this pose is impossible. i don't care if you ran it through the wringer of your garndma's washing machine! what's more likely is that someone has figured out how to outsmart your grandma's washing machine wringer. Pharq, if an asshole tech guy has enough time on his hands it would be a ppiece of cheese.

    2. Yes, realistically, it's a fake. Not AI though - I'm trusting the wringers on this, and it doesn't have that AI look, either - so some expert Photoshop? Although the image has been spread across the internet, I haven't been able to find the source. It's a nice picture, anyway.

    3. If it's not a real photograph, it's a real work of art, right?

    4. *lol* It's a great picture. You mentioned the perfection of the pose. Everything is good - the composition, the palette, the lighting, the rendering, and the idea. I'd as soon look at this as (say) a Landseer or a Stubbs. A great picture is a great picture, no matter how it was arrived at.

    5. my problem with this is that it is not presented as photo manipulation art. that is very diffrent than presenting it as a real photo. in another time and another morality universe i would have had a jolly reaction to this but i am worn down by an age of lies and bullshit served on nice china. no matter what, it is still bullshit and the stink of purposeful deception can't be ignored. i don't object to the picture. i object to whoever did this and said i should believe it. whoa..whoa...! i just fell off my soapbox!. i need a band aid!!

  18. When I do an image search for the head up there, our Digital Overmind tells me it "looks like Jackie Chan."

  19. My guess is it was assembled, not generated by a set of instructions given to an AI artwork program. The llama, sheep, and goat appear to be slightly above the ground, which would require the power of levitation. The...rooster(?) in front has no legs. Yes, he could be sitting down because he's tired and shagged out after a long squawk, but it looks like no legs to me.

So... uh... is there any value judgement we make when we're fooled by a human compositor who took several minutes to an hour to put this together, as compared to the 60 seconds of watching your computer "create" based on your commands? Is a fake a fake, or are some fakes better than other fakes?

(As a side note, I do not respect shoddy craftsmanship. I regularly see political memes in all-caps Impact font with a word that is NOT SPELLED CORRECTLEY.)

    1. It is indeed a slatey heart that cannot be warmed by this agreeable menagerie. Do I care that 2001 A Space Odyssey is in fact [spoiler - Ed.] a cunning simulacrum of fictional events involving a troupe of strolling players pretending to be real people? Is the dramatic effect compromised by the knowledge that it is engendered by a rapid sequence of still images creating the illusion of movement? Fie, I say! And furthermore fooey! Art not the artist shall be our motto! Art not the technique! Art is not fake, and this splendid image of creatures in cosy community, inviting us to join them, is art!
