  2. I might have failed to purchase several tins of Top Cat food had it not been for the judicious legal action that saw this legendary cartoon retitled for the UK market as 'Sgt Bilko's Feline Pack'

    1. None of the US 4/5g© will understand this (prove me wrong!)

    2. This US guy doesn't understand shit, but did Did Phil Silvers do the voice?

Wrong show, I know, but "heavens to Murgatroyd!" (sp?)

    3. No, but Maurice Gosfield (who apparently thought he was something of a star and ladies' man) voiced Benny the Ball.

    4. If my faulty memory serves me well for just this one time, there was a similarly named food and the BBC was claiming the name of the show violated the anti advertising policy in effect at that time. If only I could remember things that I could monetize. Where did I leave my keys?!?

    5. Top Cat's voice is actually actor Arnold Stang, imitating Phil Silvers.

    6. I knew I recognised him from somewhere - he's one of the gas station owners in It's A Mad Mad Mad Mad World (where he shares a scene with Phil Silvers).

    7. This is frustrating - I can't open the link-
"Doberman was played by Maurice Gosfield, a man of limited intelligence and even more limited acting ability, who had a habit of breaking wind at -"

    8. Arnold (the consummate "nebbish") is also wonderful as "Sparrow" in 'The Man with the Golden Arm'.

  3. I've already registered as Pretty Dem Clueless on matters of TV. I like animation, and it doesn't have to be Pixar or Disney for me to enjoy it. But "Sgt. Bilko's Feline Pack" is beyond my ability to interpret. What say the rest of us?

    1. I guess you'd've had to watch it firsthand. Made sense to me . . . --Muzak McM.

    2. Top Cat (retitled 'Boss Cat' over here in the UK to avoid IP infringement) was pretty obviously Phil Silvers' Bilko show recast as East Coast alleycats with Officer Dibble standing in for the Colonel

  4. Why don't they make cartoon theme songs like this any more? Kids nowadays . . . just don't want to put in the work, I tells ya. --Muzak McMusics

  5. MAURICE missed out on a best selling book by not publishing his fan letters. i'll bet they were fascinating. almost as fascinating as Maurice himself.

    1. Hanna-Barbera cartoons had lovability built in. And they had a hip look and style that eluded Disney (*shudder*).

    1. It was like Transformers, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, He-Man, and G.I. Joe...kids culture.... only it was funnier, and had less product placement, and we couldn't buy t-shirts and action figures.

  10. I wonder if TC and his moggy mates ever recreated my fave Bilko episode concerned with the platoon forming a choir to escape the brutal mid-West winter by competing in Florida?
